Tuesday’s Tips: The Ice Cream Garden

motherhood.

The Ice Cream Cone Garden
Sometimes all a mom needs to break up the daily doldrums is just to do something ordinary in an extraordinary way.
(Do not read- in a big and fancy and expensive way. Just define extraordinary as- in a different way than normal.)
Consider “growing” your snack sometime this week and inviting your kids to pluck their treats from your instant garden.
Josh, Maggie, and I threw together an ice cream cone farm just two minutes before the big yellow bus lumbered up the hill with our school kids.
But our hungry girls responded with so much excitement that you would have thought we’d spent all day planning this grand surprise.
We tossed a brown towel on the ground for “soil.” And lined our garden with ice cream cones.
Farmer Josh proudly plucked cones for the girls after asking them which color they preferred. Then Maggie took their ice cream orders from her cardboard box ice cream stand. Vanilla, Rainbow Sherbet or Cookie Dough? (We just offered the flavors we already had stashed in our freezer).
If you don’t have a box, you could just use a card table or an upside down laundry basket. This isn’t rocket science, just monotony busting!
Once I helped Maggie fill the cones, we all settled under a tree to enjoy our fresh-picked snack. And of course, Farmer Josh made himself available for a second harvest if anyone wanted more.

We are planting flowers this week…I wish it was a garden, but we have been on the road all month! 🙂 And so we are getting a late start!?

Alicia, Your family seems like such fun. My daughter would love an ice cream garden. We’ve made mud desserts…chocolate pudding, gummy worms and chocolate cookie crumbs. That’s the most edible garden we’ve done.
