Tuesday’s Tips: Simple Decorations for Your Thanksgiving Table

|

Welcome to Tuesday’s Tips,  a weekly IDEA SWAP for moms. I hope that when you drop by The Overflow on Tuesdays, you’ll find a gold-mine of encouragement and creative ideas excavated straight from the sticky trenches of parenthood.

Of course a SWAP wouldn’t be a true exchange without many voices. So, please consider chiming in the discussion and sharing your own great ideas.  If you’ve discovered a tried and true trip that has made motherhood a little easier, a little more exciting, or a bit more meaningful, please let me know. Just leave a comment after this post or send me an email (rbruxvoort@iowatelecom.net) so I can share your idea in the next swap!  I’d love to feature you  on an upcoming Tuesday.

Let the digging begin!

Easy Thanksgiving Table Decorations

I love a cute craft now and then, but I don’t have the time or patience to endure extensive directions and multi-step processes (and neither do my little ones). That’s why I love these two simple ideas:

Mini Pumpkin Votives:  My friend, Jill, passed on this great idea last month and we’ve had a blast buying up the clearance-rack pumpkins at our grocery store and transforming them into these cute little candles. Just cut off the top of the pumpkin and clean out the inside.

Then decorate the pumpkin as you wish. My kids love paint, but glitter glue or stick-on jewels or any kind of “bling” would work. Finally, place a small tea-light inside the pumpkin and enjoy the warm, cozy flame.

Candy Cornucopia: This easy idea can double as dessert and table decoration on Thanksgiving day.  Just fill a sugar cone with Runts candy (we added a few “gel pumpkins,” too) and tie a pretty ribbon around the cusp of the cone. Let your kids count their blessings with each sugary bite!

May your thanksgiving be filled with the FRUIT of JOY!

  1. Your always an inspiration!
I would have loved to have dropped in on your Thanksgiving dinner!
    Always Thankful for YOU!

  2. Oh, my, that little curl in the cone is so cute.. totally makes it look like the real deal. Thanks for the tip! My girls would love to steam all of our little cones! Happy Thanksgiving

  3. When you shared those darling sugar cone corocopias (spelling?) I just had to show you what I saw on a local tv show. The lady took them a step further and by steaming them was able to bend the back up. If you watch the clip you’ll see what I mean. It’s toward the end. Thanks for always having such great food for thought!
