The Saturday Soak

|
Welcome to the Saturday Soak
                  I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:15-16

I don’t take long lingering baths too often (I usually get plenty soaked during my kids’ clean-up routines), but I DO love soaking in God’s Word. I love to let a few verses just linger in my mind like I used to linger in the tub in those pre-kid days of life.

Valerie E. Hess and Marti Watson Garlett, authors of Habits of a Child’s Heart: Raising Your Kids with the Spiritual Disciplines compare the discipline of meditation to the concept of SOAKING.  “Meditation teaches us to become like tea bags, soaking deeply and quietly in God and his Word so that we can better hear him speak to our hearts and minds.”  If you’re looking for a refreshing soak this weekend, take a dip in God’s Word and consider what the following verses mean to you. In the spirit of sand-box treasure-hunting, let’s ponder a few jewels from God’s Word!

 My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside.
 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
                                                          -Job 23:11-12

By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established;
 through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.
                           Proverbs 24:3-4
