The Saturday Soak

|
Welcome to the Saturday Soak

I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:15-16

I don’t take long lingering baths too often (I usually get plenty soaked during my kids’ clean-up routines), but I DO love to soak in God’s Word.  I love to let a few verses just linger in my mind like I used to linger in the tub in those pre-kid days of life.  Valerie E. Hess and Marti WtsonGarlett, authors of Habits of a Child’s Heart: Raising Your Kids with the Spiritual Disciplines compare the disciline of meditation to the concept of SOAKING.  “Meditation teaches us to become like tea bags, soaking deeply and quietly in God and his Word so that we can better hear him speak to our hearts and minds.”

If you’re looking for a refreshing soak this weekend, take a dip in God’s Word and consider what the following verses mean to you. Perhaps you’ll gain some insight to share with your family on a tree hunt!

Psalm 1:1-3
Oh, the joys of those who do not

follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.
