Keep Praying!

| |

I’m sitting near the window and savoring the scene beyond the glass. The only evidence of yesterday’s unwanted snowfall is a mound of white in the middle of our polka-a-dot-puddled yard. A fat-bellied robin watches cautiously as a baseball rolls past. The boys have spring fever.

“Strike one!” Joshua shouts prematurely. Luke eyes the wild pitch, then tosses the ball back to his three-year-old opponent. Embarrassed, the trees wait for their spring cloaks, while my firstborn tosses his jacket on the ground to mark homeplate Joshua’s gaze follows his big brother’s every move.  Luke wiggles his silver bat and invites another pitch. Joshua takes four steps closer. Strike two! he taunts before his small fingers launch the ball. Luke laughs. Josh echoes with a happy dance. Crack! The red-stitched ball soars over my youngest son’s head. Joshua watches the flash of white, then turns to catch his brother. Luke slows his gallop, fakes a stumble, and waits for the impending tackle. Joshua dives for his big brother’s knees as he screams, “You’re OUT, Wukas! I WIN!”

It seems like only yesterday that I stood at another window hundreds of miles from here and uttered a desperate prayer for my strong-willed son (See March 19’s post if you missed that story).:  “Lord, could you make those fast feet chase after You?”  With fledgling faith, I prayed, then prayed some more. And this morning, long before the snow had morphed into muddy tracks across our yard, I met the Lord in the pink glow of dawn and prayed that prayer once again. Guide Luke’s feet, Lord. Show him your path; draw Him to your heart. Tomorrow I will do the same.

But right now, I will treasure a glimpse of God’s faithfulness  How could I have known when I begged the Lord to capture Luke’s heart that one day my fast-footed son would leave tracks for his little brother to follow; footprints that lead to the One who graciously answers prayers.
Today’s Treasure:  “Call to me, and I will answer you…”
