Happy Birthday, Rob!
Today I’m celebrating the birthday of the man I love. Twenty-eight years ago a green-eyed boy sat behind me in the fifth grade. It was his smile that first caught my eye. And by God’s amazing grace, that smile still graces my days. Though this is a day for giving gifts to the birthday boy, no gift can compare to the gift of enduring love that my husband has given me. Years ago, I wrote him this little poem to try to capture my gratitude.
It falls short, but it’s a start…
Grateful
Grateful
I love the way God’s made your hands
Big enough to cover mine.
I love the way He’s made our lives
a thread in His design.
I love the way God’s made you strong
In places I am weak.
I love the way that He’s become
The treasure that we seek.
I love the way He’s twined our hearts
With laughter and with tears.
I love the way He’s come to be
Our hope throughout the years.
I love the way God’s challenged us
To take the road less-traveled.
I love the way He’s healed us
When our hearts have come unraveled.
I love the way He’s grown our love
From just a tiny seed.
I love the way He’s nurtured us
And met our every need.
I love the way God’s walked us through
Every storm we’ve had to weather.
I love the way He’s promised us
Eternal life together.
You are my sweetest gift on this side of Heaven, Rob.
Happy Birthday!
