Family Faith and Fun Fridays: The Word that Changes Everything

The Word that Changes Everything

Before you said yes,
my house was full,
but my stomach was empty.

Before you said yes,
my heart was soft
but listening to my mama cry at night was hard.

Before you said yes,
my dreams were quiet
but my worries were loud.

Before you said yes,
I thought school was a place for other kids,
shoes were only for princesses like Cinderella,
and prayers were simply wishes that never came true.

Before you said yes,
Jesus was just the word my father muttered when he lost his job again
and the baby wailed all night.

Before you said yes,
I didn’t know that a big God
cared for little ones like me.

But then you said yes
And everything changed…
When you said yes to Love
I said yes to Jesus.
This week marks the end of Compassion International’s blog month.

The goal of this concentrated effort across the world wide web has been to match 3,108 children with  sponsors between September 1 and September 30.

Thanks to countless people just like you, as of September 24,

2, 297 children have been sponsored and have begun their journey out of the claws of poverty in Jesus’ name.

Would you consider saying yes to one of the remaining 811 children still waiting?

Your yes could change EVERYTHING for a child who has NOTHING.

*For those of you who have stopped by for Family Faith and Fun Fridays, may I issue a simple challenge?

This weekend, instead of using a fun activity to communicate truth and inspire your family’s faith, would you prayerfully consider putting the words of Christ into action?

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:34-40

*Gather your children and spend some time getting to know the least of these.

Study their faces.

Read more about who they are.

Pray about which life might be yours to bless.

Still not sure how to choose?

*Or pick a child who shares common interests and hobbies with your family.

Do you love baseball? Find a kid who loves baseball, too.
Are you an artist? Choose a child who loves to draw.

Still stuck?
Just choose the child who has been waiting the longest for a reason to hope.
Let your yes be a long-awaited answer to prayer.
Then step back and get ready for a great adventure of family, faith, and fun!

  2. Yes, the reach and heart Compassion has leaves me awed. One child at a time- love the way that is changing the world!

  3. When you said yes to love, I said yes to Jesus.

Such beautiful words. It’s heart-warming to see the results of hard work. It’s thrilling to think of the work Compassion has done through the years.
