Family Faith and Fun Fridays: Adoration Time

Welcome to Family Faith and Fun Fridays! As the week winds down and I anticipate more family time over the weekend, I often ask God for one good idea that will enable me to bring the Word to life and bring our family together. Usually, the activity overflows out of something the Lord has been teaching me through His Word during the week. I’d like to invite you to join me and my family in the adventure. Sometimes I’ll post things we’ve tried; other times I’ll post an idea in the works. If you’ve got thoughts to add or suggestions on how to adapt or improve the activity, please don’t hesitate to comment. Enjoy!
Come Let Us Adore Him!
Each year before Christmas arrives, I invite a handful of women to join me for a Morning of Adoration. Unlike most holiday parties that involve crowds and noise, elaborate spreads of food and sparkling rounds of drinks, this intimate experience is focused on stillness and worship. It is a pause in the hustle and bustle of Christmas to shift our eyes to the One who is the reason for the season. At the first of December, I prayerfully consider whom God might be nudging me to invite to this simple celebration. The invitation asks each participant to bring nothing but “an unhurried heart” and a small notecard that I include in the invite. On the notecard are a few questions that I ask each woman to ponder throughout the month. Then, when we gather, we use those very questions to shape our time together. The morning–filled with toasty drinks and warm hearts–never fails to be a precious piece of my Advent season.
This year, as I was placing the invites in the mail,I realized that I have never hosted my OWN FAMILY for an Adoration Party. So, over the weekend, I plan to invite my dearest friends, these six souls that share my home, to pause and join me for a quiet celebration (okay, nothing is quiet at my house.. but we’ll attempt a quieter celebration!) We’ll need nothing but some uninterrupted time (that may take a miracle, but we serve a God of wonders!) and a hot cup of cocoa. I’m trusting that our steamy drinks will warm our hands as our praises warm Christ’s heart.
