Family Faith and Fun Friday: The Appetizer that Goes with Every Meal
Are you ready for some family fun? We’d love to have you join us as we seek to fan the flames of faith and let the Word of Christ have the run of our house!
A wise woman once told me that family dinners aren’t just for nourishing my children’s bodies, but also for nourishing their souls.
So sometimes before we fill our plates with food, we fill them with encouraging words.
I bought an inexpensive set of plain white dishes at the Dollar Store not long ago, and we use these cheap plates to serve up some rich encouragement.
When it’s time to dish out some verbal love, I set the table with those dollar-dishes, and I place a basket of dry-erase markers in the middle of the table.
Then, before I serve our meal, we take turns moving around the table and writing encouraging words on each person’s plate.
(And when our activity is done, we just wipe the plates clean and serve up the next course- whatever I’ve cooked for dinner!)
Usually I give specific directions to help guide our words.
I may say…
Write a compliment on each person’s plate.
or Write on every family member’s plate one thing you love about him/her.
or Tell ________ why you are glad he/she is in our family.
or Write down one thing this person is really good at.
The possibilities for blessing one another are endless!
Whether we are celebrating talents are just gushing words of love, every time we pull out those writing plates and our rainbow markers, we nourish seven growing souls.
And that’s why grace graffiti is my all-time favorite appetizer!
The Overflow: So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are doing already.
-I Thessalonians 5:11
Go ahead, leave some graffiti… I’ve set out a plate just for you.
What words have nourished your soul lately?
Absolutely perfect!
Encouraging words are always a bonus to our busy lives!
I’m so glad you tracked Margot down— you two could share some pretty great conversations. I’ll be watching for her at your place!
Hey chica,
Have you seen the little kits where you can do this and it would remain permanent…you know for gifts? I would love to use your idea and then even give these away.
You always give my creativity a good jolt.
PS Did I tell you your girl, Margot Starbuck is going to guest post at my place? Nice lead.
