Dancing with Daddy
Tonight was a BIG NIGHT in our LITTLE town.
Hundreds of little girls played the part of Cinderella on this warm spring evening; while just as many daddies entertained the role of the prince. Tonight was the Father-Daughter Dance. When Rob left the house with two beautiful girls on his arm, I wished I could be the invisible guest.
I would have loved to eavesdrop on the dinner conversation as my two school-aged princesses garnered their dad’s full attention over a fancy (aka: not Mc Donald’s) meal before the dance. And I most certainly would have savored watching the love of my life tear up the dance floor with his grooving duo. I know without a doubt that my man can macarena with the best of them!
But when the disco ball stops spinning tonight and my tired trio comes home, I’ll say a prayer of thanks for a man who dances with his daughters all through the year. I am grateful that my girls have a daddy who spins and twirls them across the kitchen floor as naturally as prince charming waltzes his beloved across the ballroom.
I may never get a glimpse of what happens once a year at the famed Father-Daughter Dance; but I have a front row seat for the macarena moves that break out in the middle of dish duty. I thank God for a husband who understands that his little cinderellas won’t always be around to dance. So, for now, he makes room in his arms (and in his busy schedule) to waltz with the ones God’s given him.
I can’t get Steven Curtis Chapman’s song out of my head.. I know you’re humming it, too. Go ahead, grab your tissues and sing along to Cinderella.
