Because I Couldn’t Talk My Husband into Another Baby….

| |

Lately, I’ve been feeling like packing up some boxes.

Or peeing on a stick just to see if a little pink plus sign appears.

Or getting a puppy.

Or chopping off all of my hair and trying to sport the punk rock spike.

You see, I love change.

In fact, my dear husband of nearly twenty years has now and then accused me of being addicted to change.

I will go to my grave arguing that my appetite for change has less to do with discontent and far more to do with an insatiable appetite for living life to the full.

But instead of sending my man to an early grave from the sheer stress of living with me, I decided to feed my addiction right here at The Overflow!

After all, this is a place that encourages life overflowing!

So, I’ve redecorated a bit and I hope you’ll take some time to browse around this old-new place and tell me what you think.

Take a peek at my updated list of speaking topics and let me know if I could have the thrill of ministering to you at a women’s retreat, a mom’s group, or a mother-daughter event.Facebook is a fine place to connect with you, but there’s nothing that beats the fun of meeting readers face to face.

Sign up to have The Overflow drizzle quietly into your in-box a few times a week, or connect with me on Twitter or Facebook so you never miss a post.

If you’ve got a bit of extra time, grab a cup of coffee and browse my portfolio for a wide variety of inspiring articles I’ve written for Today’s Christian Woman, MomSense Magazine, and P31 Woman, amongst others.

Don’t forget to print yourself a copy of the “Rocking Chair Prayer “at the bottom of my home page in the space marked Overflow Extras. Maybe you can hang it on your fridge right next to that precious finger-painted masterpiece as a simple reminder to seize the summer ’cause  your little artist’s hands won’t stay little for long. And as a quiet call to prayer in the chaos of your days.

I hope the changes have made it easier to find your way around The Overflow!

(That’s a sincere wish coming from a woman who is always getting lost!).

And that the new look invites your soul to slow and rest in this humble place.

However, I do hope that one thing HASN’T CHANGED.

I hope that you’ll still find the Overflow to be a place where faith is spilled and souls are filled.

A place where we can come broken and seek the One who makes us beautiful.

A place where we can admit we’ll never be enough, and together, chase after the One who is.

And even though I love a hearty dose of change, I’m praying that through my meager scribbles and scrawls, you’ll get a glimpse of my Unchanging Savior. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll fall in love with Him, too.

Not because of anything I write, but because He’s relentlessly pursuing your heart and mine.

Even here in the midst of all these changes!

Thanks for stopping by today, friends, for giving me grace in all of this redecoration, and for sparing my husband the stress of another life change.

For now.

Linking this old-new place up with Laura for playdates with God,  and Jen for soli deo gloria

  1. Girlfriend, you would rock the pink hair thing. I vote for that. I can totally see you with one large stripe of hot pink. Love you and love the new look of your site.

Well, dear friend, the love is mutual- but if I go with the pink hair, I think you’d better choose green so we can rock together 🙂

  2. Alicia, I would show up here no matter what the space looks like. I’ve been thinking about a redesign, too… you’ve inspired me! But most of all, your words ALWAYS inspire me.

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

And I’d eat off of dirty dishes with you, friend, if only we could figure out how to live in the same place. Thanks for the encouragement.

I’m sure you know your mom posts a link to your blog once in a while and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read. You were always so into writing and it is really good to see you making such use of your talent. Looking forward to getting it on a regular basis.

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Thanks, Gail! You probably remember all those stunning skits I wrote and forced your boys to act out with me 🙂 Ahh…memories!

  4. All I can say is you are one cute, hip blogger!!! And I am blessed and continually encouraged as you chase after Jesus, sharing what He leads your fingers to type!!!! Thanks for being one who loves change and challenges me to ask God to carry me as we encounter MUCH change … not something I handle with quite as much enthusiasm! We are praising God for His clear guiding into the changes on the near horizon! Love you dearly friend!

Cute and hip, huh? Even without spikey punk hair? you know better than most about my “change addiction”… so glad our friendship hasn’t changed like my hairstyles. I’m excited to see what God has in store as you step into a season of change, too, dear friend.

  5. Carol – to get to the rocking chair prayer, you first need to go to the bottom of this page and click on Home and then go to the bottom of that page for Overflow Extras.

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Thanks for clarifying that, Phyllis! You said it far more clearly than I did 🙂

  6. New to your blog (I found it through the Soli Deo Gloria party) and I can’t wait to poke around!

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Glad to meet you, Marty! I love my SDG sisters:) I’ll be stopping by your site soon, too!

  7. Kathy Schwanke says:

    Beautiful!
I didn’t realize your writing was out there like that. Wonderful!!! I will have to pop around when crazy settles. (we just sold the farm and have to find a place to live and move two weeks after our little boy gets married. (august 10th and then close end of August)

I will be getting back to you on that other item in a week or so, hope that works! 🙂

I did a redesign/ new address but I may have jumped the gun on it and I want to start over-maybe. (yes I am decisive-not. And I would love to love change like you do!)

Life has been bowling me over since I landed home on Thursday. But God is good!

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Oh, Kathy come back whenever you want:) You know you’re one of my favorite visitors!

  8. Alicia!
I love how you’ve organized. I’m looking forward to browsing and reading your articles.

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

      Thanks, Anna

  9. Alicia,
I’m probably looking in the wrong place, but I’d love to see a copy of your rocking chair prayer.
    Love your site!
    Thanks

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Carol, the poem is tucked at the bottom of the page in that space called Overflow Extras. I’m glad you asked, because I hadn’t really explained that well. Thanks for stopping by.

  10. This made me smile, I think a blog redesign is a good compromise 🙂 The site looks great, it’s so organized!!

    1. Alicia Bruxvoort says:

Thanks, Alecia. It’s a good compromise for now, isn’t it? At least it buys my man some time before my next BIG IDEA!!!
