Family Faith and Fun Fridays: Soaking in God’s Word
For the word of God is alive and powerful.
It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword,
cutting between soul and spirit,
between joint and marrow.
It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
-Hebrews 4:12
Welcome to Family Faith and Fun Fridays. As the week winds down and I anticipate more family time over the weekend, I often ask God for one good idea that will enable me to bring the Word to life and bring our family together. Usually, the activity overflows out of something the Lord has been teaching me through His Word during the week. I’d like to invite you to join me and my family in the adventure. Sometimes I’ll post things we’ve tried; other times I’ll post an idea in the works. If you’ve got thoughts to add or suggestions on how to adapt or improve the suggested activity, please don’t hesitate to post a comment. Enjoy!
Soaking in God’s Word
Our weekend is filled to the brim with two days crammed full of friends, family, and backyard play. However, if you’re looking for a simple way to revitalize your family’s Bible reading, give this idea a try! Ever since I fell in love with the Word Made Flesh, I’ve developed an addiction to God’s Word. Truly, I can’t help myself. I’m a Bible junkie. I can’t make it through a day without a long sip of Living Truth. Not surprisingly, one of my main goals as a mother is to introduce my children to the thrill of God’s Word.
We often use the phrase “soaking in the Word” as a way of describing the process of reading the Bible and musing on the message. Last week I decided to revitalize our morning Bible time with a literal “soak in the Word.” The kids woke to an irresistable invitation…
A bathtub filled with fuzzy pillows, cozy blankets and a pile of children’s Bibles.
Hannah read the entire book of Job while sipping apple juice.
Maggie read her Bible story picture books and tried to shampoo her hair (you can learn from my mistake and remove all the soaps and shampoos BEFORE your children take a soak!)
Joshua just couldn’t grasp the idea of jumping in the bathtub with clothes on, so he stripped down and savored the BARE truth!
And Luke and Lizzy decided they could stretch out more comfortably on their beds, so they grabbed a bath pillow and SOAKED in their own way.
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
