Wednesday’s Jewels

|
I love it when I stumble upon words that quietly take up residence in my soul: a quote worth sharing, a question worth asking, a prayer worth repeating. I love it when another truth seeker’s reverent musings lift my thoughts above dirty diapers, dirty dishes and dirty laundry. I feel grateful when another seeker’s words chase me shamelessly to the Living Word. As the wise writer of Proverbs declares, “The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry…” (Proverbs 34:11).

I’m digging in somebody else’s jewelry box today. I think you’ll enjoy the poignant pearls of truth that accessorize this post. If you’ve found the “right word at the right time” this week, feel free to open your box of jewels and share it here. I’d love to pick it up, polish it off and enjoy its beauty, too!

After all my musing this week on my need for filling my cup with God’s strength, I felt like God reached down this morning and affirmed my quest.  I’d slipped out of bed with the brilliant sun and was savoring an unusually quiet start to my day. I had my coffee cup in one hand and an “old favorite” Beth Moore study in the other. As I cracked open the well-worn Bible study workbook, I noticed a quote scribbled across the title page. In my own handwriting I had written and starred this sage advice from Andrew Murray’s classic, God’s Best Secrets. It seems that even mighty men of faith need to “fill their cup.”

“Many Christians… strive to do their best to fight against sin and serve God, but they have no strength.  They have never really grasped the secret that the Lord Jesus will continue His work in them every day, but only on one condition: every soul must give Him time each day to impart His love and His grace.  Time alone with the Lord Jesus each day is the indispensable condition of His grace and power.

May we all sidle up to our Father and drink deeply!
