Tuesday’s Tips: The Grace Garden

|

I’m so glad you stopped by today for Tuesday’s Tips.

I hope that as you peruse this weekly IDEA SWAP, you’ll find a gold-mine of encouragement and treasure trove of creative ideas excavated straight from the sticky trenches of parenthood.

Of course a SWAP wouldn’t be a true exchange without many voices. So, please consider chiming in the discussion and sharing your own great ideas.

If you’ve discovered a tried and true trip that has made motherhood a little easier, a little more exciting, or a bit more meaningful, please let me know. Just leave a comment after this post or send me an email @rbruxvoort.iowatelecom.net so I can share your idea in the next swap! I’d love to feature you on an upcoming Tuesday.

The Grace Garden:  A Living Parable for Holy Week

Over the weekend the little ones and I planted an Easter Garden. I borrowed this beautiful idea from amazing Ann at aholyexperience.com.  For a complete tutorial on how to build your own garden of grace, check out Ann’s step-by-step explanation here.

The options, of course are endless. Here’s what we did…

I simply filled a large planter with potting soil and set a small overturned pea pot in the dirt to represent Christ’s tomb. Then we found a large rock in our own landscaping that could cover the pot’s opening like the stone that was rolled in front of Jesus’ tomb. From there, my creative ones took over and created a masterpiece!

Hannah worked meticulously on “landscaping.” She used a small lid filled with water to create a pond, complete with a floating lily pad. Then she added candles and colorful blooms, and even surrendered some of her favorite jewels to build a stepping stone path to the tomb.

Josh delighted in inspecting nearly every tree in the yard for moss that we could pluck and piece around the tomb. Maggie just picked dandelions and added a splash of gold to the garden.

Then we hauled the garden inside and placed it beneath a window. On Good Friday, we’ll add a cross to the story and roll up a tiny piece of white fabric like a tiny cocoon and place it in the tomb. On Saturday, we’ll wait.

And on Easter Sunday, we’ll wake to see that the stone has been rolled away. The cocoon is gone and a butterfly sits in its place to remind us that Jesus is alive.  And we’ll cheer and perhaps dance and maybe even sing. Because that empty tomb is our invitation to SOAR from death to life as well!

  1. Just by adding a small pond you can make a little heaven and to sustain it Pond Pro 2000 is good enough. It will work for pond as a protector from leaks and damages.

  2. I love this…I want to do this today…now how am going to put it all together!
