The Sister Step!

| | |

My big sister turned forty today, and we celebrated her stepping into her fourth decade with an unusual birthday tree. As I mused on all the steps we’ve shared in my thirty-eight-and-a-half-years, I penned this simple poem of gratitude. A sister is a gift. But a sister who walks with Christ is a gift wrapped in grace. I have both.  Happy Birthday, Angie!

                                Faith Steps

If years are clocked in footsteps,
Our feet have shared a few.
And I’m thankful that I’ve trod
This road of life with you.

From bare feet bounding

Through backyard green
To painted toes dancing
With dreams unseen;

From footprints scattered

‘Cross winter’s white
To tiptoed trails
‘Neath silver moonlight;
From hospital hallways
To foreign lands,
From murky mud puddles
To tide-softened sand;
From crags of confusion

And pits of despair,
To plateaus of peace
And divine heights of prayer;
Our feet have blazed boldly
A serpentine trail
Through blue-sky joy
And howling gale.
And every step
These toes have tread
Point to God.
Behind. Ahead.
Hemming us in with
Glorious grace.
Granting us strength
To finish this race.
Sisters by birth,
Bound forever in Christ,
May our stride
Follow Jesus to Paradise.

I love you, sis!
