The One Who Lives Up To His Name

| | |

We began an Advent study on the names of Jesus tonight, and I was reminded once again of why I love my Savior.

The Word Made Flesh, the Son of David, the Lion of Judah; I adore Him.

The True Vine, the Bread of Life, the Rock; I delight in Him.

Mighty Counselor, Prince of Peace, the Lamb of God; I need Him.

None of the gifts or the gala can fill the hole in my heart like the One who is fully whole and wholly God.

None of the glitz or the goodwill can speak hope into my darkness like the One who needs nothing and offers everything.
Jesus has a name to meet my every need.

And tonight, I want to thank Him for living up to His name.
All of His names.
All of the time.

   The One Who Lives
       Up to His Name

When the pace of life has depleted my soul,
And my passion and vision has waned,
I receive all I need from El Shaddai.
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When the battle is daunting and fear presses in,
Victory is mine to claim.
Jehovah Nissa is my banner held high.
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When a storm is raging deep in my heart,
And worry begins its sly game,
Jehovah Shalom quiets my soul.
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When the threads of my life unravel and fray
I draw strength from my Father’s acclaim.
El Elyon works all things for good.
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When I’ve wondered too far from my shepherd’s staff,
And my spirit is wounded and lame,
Jehovah Raah gently carries me home.
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When I’m feeling inadequate; can’t measure up,
And I’ve no successes to claim,
El Elohim says, “You are my masterpiece.”
I serve a God who lives up to his name.

When sin chokes my soul and I’m naked with guilt,
His righteousness covers my shame.
Jehovah Tsidkenu clothes me in grace.
I serve a God who lives up to name.

Almighty Creator,
Most High Sovereignty,
The Shepherd and Healer
Who sanctifies me;
My Peace and my Promise,
Provision Assured,
The Lord of all Hosts,
He’s the true Living Word.

Alpha, Omega,
Beginning and End,
Wonderful, Counselor,
Comforter, Friend,
He’s Abba, my Father.
He’s Sweet Victory.
Redeemer, Messiah,
He’s all things to me.

He’s captured my heart.
I’m no longer the same.
I’m in love with the One
Who lives up to His name.

  5. Thanks, friends. Of all the poems I’ve scribbled over the years, this is a favorite- mostly because it was born out of my own crying out to Him and finding His names DO hold when the rest of the world is shaking beneath my feet.
