Growing Roots in the New Year

|
Yesterday’s post brought to mind a prayer I penned a decade ago when I first began to sink  roots in the Word of God. I think my dream of welcoming the winds of Heaven this year will be deeply connected to my daily decision to spend time with Jesus.  Will I bury myself in the rich soil of His Word or will I stretch shallow roots across the landscape of my busy life? My choice will make all the difference in whether I sway with the swirls of the Spirit or topple beneath the  tremors of this world.

Maya Angelou once said, “A woman’s heart should be so buried in Christ that a man should have to seek Him first to find her.” May this be the year that we bury ourselves in Him! Wishing you deep roots and unshakeable joy in 2012, dear friends!

Bury Me…

Bury me, sweet Lord, in you.
Sink my roots in what is true.
Rain your word upon my heart.
Penetrate my deepest part.
With living water, soak my soul.
Restore my strength, Lord, make me whole.
Prune me with your loving hand
So firmly through the storms I’ll stand.
In times of drought or times of flood,
Protect me with the Savior’s blood.
Grow me, Father, as you please.
Make me blossom on my knees.
Cultivate your love in me
So all who watch me bloom will see
Your radiant beauty flowing through
This heart that longs to be like you.
And may all the glory be your gain
As I bear fruit in Jesus name.
Then when your work in me is done,
May I bear likeness to your Son.
So in your book, I’ll be remembered
As a display of your great splendor.
