A Time to Dance

| |
I’ve been thinking about being a bride this week- not just a bride of sixteen years to my high school sweetheart, Rob-but also a bride of Christ.  On Wednesday, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of women in a neighboring community about the thrill of being romanced by Jesus.  As I watched the tears flow down countless cheeks, I was reminded again of just how much we as women need to feel beautiful, pursued and treasured.  We need to accept our Perfect Bridegroom’s invitation to step into His arms and dance through this life. He’s offered to take the lead if only we will follow.

When Elizabeth was little, I would often watch her dancing unaware.  With a sparkle in her eye, she would spin and twirl with delight, secure in the belief that she was a dazzling ballerina.  As I watched, I would frequently pray that she would not miss the dance of a lifetime- the invitation to waltz through this world and right into the next in the arms of her Savior.  Later, her little sister Hannah followed suit, adding tutus and fufu to our in-house dance phenomenon.  And just today, I watched as ten-month-old Magdalene did a “high chair dance” in response to the praise music that was echoing off the kitchen walls at breakfast time.  With three ballerinas in my midst, I continue to pray for ALL my girls this simple prayer that I scribbled in Lizzy’s journal long ago…

The Dance

She loves to skip and spin and prance,
To twirl upon her toes and dance.
She loves to dress in princess style,
With poppy-bead pearls and a sparkling smile.
And though I love her winsome play,
The imagination that whisks her away,
I long for my precious princess to know
A waltz of love that she’ll never outgrow.
I pray as she dances with four-year-old glee
That her heart will dance for eternity.
Dance with wonder, dance without shame,
Dance at the sound of her sweet Savior’s name.
Dance with gratitude for all He has done,
Dance like the bride of the King’s only Son.
And when the day comes that the King calls her home,
May she dance with her Prince at the foot of God’s throne!
