A Display of His Splendor

|

The more I ponder the idea of sinking deep roots in the Lord, the more I’m convinced that the best soil for growing fruitful lives is the Word of God. This morning the kids and I read from Genesis 1 and marveled at how God’s WORD created the world. God’s voice did what even a master artists’ hands could never accomplish:  He made beauty from emptiness,  something from nothing.  No wonder the Apostle Paul reminds us that God’s word is ACTIVE and ALIVE.  May that be the soil that transforms me -and my children-from a fledgling seedling to an “oak of righteousness.”

Years ago, I penned this prayer. It is still the cry of my heart…

A Display of His Splendor

Bury me, sweet Lord, in you.
Sink my roots in what is true.
Rain your word upon my heart.
Penetrate my deepest part.

With living water, soak my soul.
Restore my strength, Lord, make me whole.
Prune me with your loving hand
So firmly through the storms I’ll stand.

In times of drought or times of flood,
Protect me with the Savior’s blood.
Grow me, Father, as you please.
Make me blossom on my knees.

Cultivate your love in me
So all who watch me bloom will see
Your radiant beauty flowing through
This heart that longs to be like you.
And may all the glory be your gain

As I bear fruit in Jesus name.
Then when your work in me is done,
May I bear likeness to your Son.
So in your book, I’ll be remembered
As a display of your great splendor.
